💫  Building Experience When You Have No Experience

One of the most frustrating things about this industry is that people only want people with experience. But how can you get experience when no one will hire you because you don’t have experience?

There are multiple ways to build adjacent experience that can help you land your first internship!

• Build lots of side projects! Web apps, AI projects, and mobile apps are great starting points!
• Participate in hackathons and contribute to the open source community.
  • Look into MLH for hackathons and First Timers Only for contributing to open source.
• Email professors and try to get research experience in a lab at your university.
• TA for a class you have already taken and done well in! Also look for CS tutoring and volunteer opportunities.
• Join CS clubs for networking and getting leadership positions.
• If you are financially able, take unpaid or low-paid internships to build experience.
